The Largest Earthquake In U.S. History Happened 50 Years Ago

On 27th March At 5:42 a.m., 1964, a 9.2-magnitude earthquake exploded 78 miles east of Anchorage, Alaska. The earthquake residues the most powerful earthquake to attack North America and the second biggest earthquake ever measured.

 

In addition to nearly three minutes of trembling, the earthquake unchecked inconceivable devastation to Alaska’s landscape, including tsunamis, liquefaction, ground fissures, avalanches, and at the bottom of the sea landslides. The coastline was resculpted and some areas saw the earth elevated as high as 30 feet. In the days after the quake, 11 after effects were recorded with a magnitude greater than 6.2.

 

Merely 139 people died in the earthquake, on the other hand, and only 15 as a direct result of the quake itself. Supreme people died from the two tsunamis, including 5 people in Oregon and 13 in California. Lots of areas of Anchorage and Juneau had to be totally renewed.
