Tribute to Super Star Rajni catching on in films

He is well thought-out the Superstar of South cinema. No wonder he is famous in films across the country. Chennai Times lists a few films that pay an ode to his style…

Even as filmmakers continue to celebrate Rajinikanth, the Superstar himself seems to be a big fan of Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan! Just sample this: in the famous barbershop scene in Endhiran, a gentleman asks Chitti (played by Rajini) to tell the telephone number of Kamal Haasan. Also, in the scene when he ‘becomes white’ in Shankar’s Sivaji, Rajini himself says that once he becomes ‘white’, ‘Chuma Kamal Haasan maari irupaen!’

Forget the Lungi Dance. The fact that the Baadshah of Bollywood did a tribute to our Superstar is cool enough. Shah Rukh certainly knows the traction that Rajinikanth enjoys back home, for, he categorically stated during the promotions of his latest film in Chennai that ‘Rajini sir is the biggest superstar.’

A remake of Super Star Rajini’s evergreen classic. Need we say more?

When Chitti – The Robot makes a cameo appearance in the film, the crowds at the theatres went mad. So mad that no could hardly hear Kareena Kapoor gushing a ‘Rajini sir’ line, her voice full of admiration.

The title itself was inspired by characters played by Rajinikanth. If that was not enough, Vemal’s ringtone in the film is the famous dialogue that the Superstar delivered in Annamalai.

Unga kitta irukatum aayiram khan.. dei enga thalaivar thaan enaikume superstar — so goes this lyric in the Chennai City Gangsta number in the film. Other songs in the album feature dialogues from Rajinikanth’s Baasha quite prominently.
