Southern top actress Anushka
Shetty was originally considered for the role essayed by Priya Mani in Telugu
revenge-drama "Chandi", which was screened yesterday. But the makers
are content with Priyamani's performance in the film.
"Since it being a revenge
drama with lot of action in the movie, we wanted to cast Anushka because she is
well known for the action avatar in films which has been potrayed by the movie
Arundhati. But things didn’t go as planned so we finally moved to Priya, who
did a splendid job of playing her role with an utmost ease," V. Samudra,
said the film director.
"Priya learnt archery and
swordfighting for the film. In fact, she even pulled off most stunt sequences
on her own. Im sure her role will be a treat for her fans," he added.
Samudra says he based Priyas
character on Indian freedom activist Alluri Seetarama Raju.
"People wouldnt really be
interested in watching a periodic movie nowadays. Therefore, I designed the
character thats imprinted with the ideologies of freedom activist Alluri
Seetarama Raju in modern days life. Priya plays the role of the fourth
generation daughter of Alluri in the film," he said.
"She also fights a battle
but this time against corrupt politicians who use government sanctioned lands
for their personal use," added Samudra.
